This mommy could’ve done some better planning. The UK’s Daily Mail reports first-time mom Anna Smith got a big surprise at her baby shower–the arrival of her baby.
Smith was having what she thought were stomach cramps, so she left her party to go to the restroom. She didn’t think much of pains since her due date wasn’t until July 27. But one of her more experienced friends told her she was having contractions and called the ambulance. At that point, her contractions were three minutes apart so Smith and her friends thought there was plenty of time. Nope. Smith’s three best friends ended up acting as midwives in the upstairs bathroom because baby Martha did not have time to wait around for an ambulance. Said the new mom, “I can’t really remember much of it, but I remember Emma saying ‘The baby’s coming’.” Shower guests clapped and cheered when they heard the baby crying.
We’re glad mom and baby are alright (the ambulance arrived shortly after Martha’s birth, taking them both to the hospital) but this is a scary situation that could’ve been avoided. To recap: have the shower earlier.
