There's nothing like catching sight of a celebrity who's snapped back five minutes after giving birth to make you feel bad about your own stretchmarks and stomach. That's why photographer and mother of three Ashlee Wells Jackson launched the 4th Trimester Bodies Project. She plans to travel around the country photographing women in all their nearly nude glory, C-section scars and all.
Wells Jackson writes on her website, "This project is dedicated to embracing the beauty inherent in the changes brought to our bodies by motherhood, childbirth and breastfeeding." Each of the elegant, simple photos has a short bio of the mom and her family. The tagline "stretches, stripes and scars" is really poignant. It's nice that for once, the focus isn't on how quickly someone can jump back into a bikini after having a child. We need to give ourselves a break and realize that having a baby is hard work. The photo series shows those bodies at work--and play--with the beautiful families they created.
