This story is so crazy, we had to double check we got it right. A woman, who didn’t know she was pregnant in the first place, gave birth while she was running a marathon. What in the world?
Trish Staine told FOX Sports she was in the middle of training for the upcoming Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota. On Sunday, she was training for her race when she started to feel back stiffness. She thought it was just from training, so she went home and took an aspirin and a bath. But by Monday, the stiffness turned into horrible pain that left her “screaming, crying and yelling out.”
When the pain became unbearable, Staine and her husband called an ambulance. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, she gave birth.
So a woman, presumably in fantastic shape, training for a marathon, had no idea she was pregnant. In fact, her husband insists it looked like she had lost weight. Wow.
Yeah, wow is right. And that’s not where it stops. Staine and her husband already had two biological children in addition to their two foster children, meaning she’d been through it all before. And they didn’t want more–husband John had had a vasectomy.
Staine says even after this, um, setback, she’s still going to run her race on the June 22 because she’s already paid the entry fee. Good luck to her and good Lord.
